Distributiecentrum Het Klooster
Nieuwegein
Somerset Capital Partners appointed Mulderblauw architects to design a new XL distribution centre at Het Klooster industrial park in Nieuwegein, one of the most strategic logistics sites in the Netherlands.
We were invited to come up with a striking and distinctive design for the site which is located beside the A27 motorway and surrounded by greenery and water. The form of the site prompted the idea to split the design into two warehouses of different sizes, each with its own facilities so that parts can be rented separately.
visual tranquility
The logistics hall is fitted with a dark plinth so the docks, doors and other facilities blend into the background as much as possible, thereby creating a sense of visual calm. Standing on this plinth is a facade of gold-coloured vertical sandwich panels. This refined metallic colour gives the building a luxurious appearance that stands out from the green surroundings.
The office volumes at the corners of the building are placed outside the volume of the hall to create as much efficient storage space as possible. Rounded corners with plenty of glazing give the building an open and soft character. A white strip frames the top and bottom of the glazing and sandwich panels, tying the hall and office volumes to each other like a ribbon. The striking design makes the building immediately recognizable from the motorway.
